Responsible Gambling
Last updated: April 10, 2026
The Cold Line is a sports betting analytics platform, not a sportsbook. We do not accept or place wagers. However, our tools are designed to inform betting decisions, and we take our responsibility to promote healthy gambling practices seriously.
Our Commitment
We built The Cold Line to give bettors better information. But better information does not eliminate risk. Sports betting should be entertainment — something you do with money you can afford to lose. If it stops being fun, something is wrong.
We are committed to:
- Providing honest, transparent analytics without overstating model accuracy
- Never guaranteeing outcomes or encouraging reckless wagering
- Displaying clear disclaimers on all predictions, edge calculations, and model outputs
- Supporting users who want to reduce or stop their gambling activity
Set Your Limits
Before you place any bet, establish limits for yourself and stick to them:
- Budget limit. Decide how much money you can afford to lose in a week or month. Do not exceed this amount under any circumstances. Winning streaks end. Models go cold. The budget is the ceiling.
- Time limit. Set a maximum amount of time you spend on betting-related activity per day. Constant monitoring of lines, odds, and model outputs can become compulsive.
- Loss limit. Decide in advance the maximum loss you will accept before stopping. Do not chase losses. If you hit your loss limit, walk away. The games will be there tomorrow.
- Unit sizing. If you use our Edge Scanner or Kelly sizing tools, remember these are mathematical frameworks — not invitations to increase risk. Start with smaller sizing (quarter Kelly or less) and never bet money you need for essential expenses.
Warning Signs
Gambling may be becoming a problem if you:
- Bet more than you can afford to lose
- Chase losses by increasing your stakes after losing
- Feel anxious, irritable, or restless when not betting
- Lie to family or friends about how much you gamble
- Borrow money or sell possessions to fund gambling
- Neglect work, relationships, or responsibilities because of gambling
- Feel unable to stop or cut back despite wanting to
- Gamble to escape problems or relieve feelings of helplessness or depression
- Need to bet increasing amounts to feel the same excitement
- Have attempted to cut back or stop gambling and failed
If any of these apply to you, please reach out for help. There is no shame in seeking support.
